Canada to Expand Commercial Space Flight

The Government of Canada is taking measures to allow commercial space launches in our country.

The Minister of Transport, flanked by members of the Canadian Space Agency, and the aerospace sector, says expanding our space launch capabilities and opening Canada to commercial space launches will bring economic benefits to urban and rural areas across the country.

“Canada is poised to bring its long history and world-leading reputation to this quickly growing field”, said Omar Alghabra, Canada’s Minister of Transport.

Space-based technology placed in Earth’s orbit is in high demand in most sectors including transportation, services, and telecommunication.

Canadian and international advocates have demonstrated interest in conducting commercial space launch activities from Canada.

The Government of Canada says this move is key to maintaining Canada’s leading role in outer space exploration and development.

In 2020, the Canadian aerospace industry contributed over $22B in GDP and close to 207,000 jobs to the Canadian economy.
