This past year had Canada setting a record for the number of newcomers to our country.
Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) welcomed 431,645 people surpassing the previous record set in 1913.
The Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship commented that this was an important milestone for Canada.
“It is a testament to the strength and resilience of our country and its people. Newcomers play an essential role in filling labour shortages, bringing new perspectives and talents to our communities, and enriching our society as a whole,” added Fraser.
“I am excited to see what the future holds and look forward to another historic year in 2023 as we continue to welcome newcomers.”
During the year IRCC processed over 5.2 million applications for permanent and temporary residency, as well as temporary residency and citizenship.
The Government of Canada plans to continue to welcome historic numbers of newcomers and is adding resources and technology to help streamline the process.
