BGC opening new daycare facility in Anzac

BGC Fort McMurray (BGCFM) is opening a brand new licensed daycare facility in Anzac in November.

The new facility will be located in the Anzac Recreation Centre and will provide around 40 childcare spaces for both full-time daycare spaces (12 months to five years) and out-of-school spaces (five to 12 years).

Matty Parlee, Board Chair for BGCFM said BGCFM is committed to helping families access quality, affordable, and inclusive childcare options that are close to home.

“We are pleased to be able to expand our programming into the Anzac community and fill a much-needed gap in accessible childcare – a challenge that was expressed to us through various conversations and consultation within the community,” said Parlee.

With the creation of the Alberta Childcare Affordability Grant earlier this year, BGCFM was provided a feasible funding structure to open a new facility.

“Until now, we’ve been limited to providing programming within the city limits of Fort McMurray,” says
Jennifer Kennett, Executive Director at BGC Fort McMurray.

Kennett says BGCFM is extremely grateful for the support they’ve received.

“The opening of our new daycare facility has largely been a community effort, it’s only appropriate that we also engage the community to help us with its naming.”

A contest will be announced shortly for members of the Anzac community to name the facility.

The new facility will have an open house on Saturday, October 29, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Registration for childcare will open on October 1, 2022, with applications being submitted online.
