Armed robbery suspects arrested in Fort McMurray

Police have confirmed the arrest of both suspects wanted in connection to a number of robberies that occurred over the weekend.

In the early morning of Saturday, Sep. 10, officers received a call of a man and woman who had allegedly robbed a Shell gas station at 142 Dickins Drive in Fort McMurray with a firearm.

Throughout the morning, reports came in of three additional robberies or car jackings involving the same suspects.

Cameron Smith and Candace Catsaroupas were arrested without incident outside of a Downtown Fort McMurray residence Monday morning.

Cameron Smith, age 33, of Ft. McMurray is charged with:

  • 3 counts of Robbery with a firearm
  • 3 counts of Careless use of a firearm
  • 1 count of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • 1 count of Take Motor Vehicle without Consent
  • 4 counts of Possess Firearm or Weapon while Prohibited

As well as 3 counts of failing to comply with a release order related to bail conditions imposed on September 7, 2022.

Candace Catsaroupas, age 30, of Ft. McMurray is charged with:

  • 3 counts of Robbery with a firearm
  • 3 counts of Careless use of a firearm
  • 1 count of Robbery
  • 1 count of Take Motor Vehicle without Consent

Both are currently in police custody awaiting Judicial Interim Release Hearings.
