Keyano Huskies Volleyball duo off to Beach Nationals

Two Keyano Huskies Men’s Volleyball team members are looking to win a National Championship this weekend.

Trey Weinmeier, Radoslaw (Radek) Brzozowski, and their coach Keegan Kuhr are in Toronto where they’ll be competing in the 2022 Volleyball Canada University/College National Championship.

“It’s amazing; I’m really excited for it. Especially being the first college nationals ever, getting the opportunity to represent our college and show what we can do at this and hopefully come home with a banner,” said Weinmeier.

The tournament runs from September 3-4, with the duo being placed in ‘Group G’ against Western University and Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM).

The duo is recently coming off a provincial championship in August when they won the 2022 Alberta Volleyball Adult Men’s Beach Provincial Championship.

“It’s going to be interesting to play against actual other colleges from the east and see what guys come with there and what teams show up,” said Weinmeier.

“[The] provincial title was our first goal and our second goal is college nationals.”

Brzozowski said Beach Volleyball teaches you a lot of ball control which can be used in the court game after.

You basically have to be good at every skill to win games to perform, not just in what your position requires from you. It would be very beneficial for everyone to play to increase their skill level as well.”

Huskies men’s Volleyball Head Coach Keegan Kuhr says it’s pretty cool to see how far they’ve come.

“They’ve worked hard all summer, focusing on their beach and I’m pretty excited to see all their hard work pay off, I’m looking forward to it.”

Weinmeier, from Edmonton, Alberta, and Brzozowski, from Wroclow, Poland, make up the Keyano Huskies Beach Team who are the lone registered team from Alberta and the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) on the men’s side of the competition.
