Arrest made on July 1 in Fort McMurray being investigated by ASIRT

On Aug. 3, Alberta Serious Incident Response Teams (ASIRT) were directed to investigate an arrest made by Wood Buffalo RCMP on July 1.

Police received reports of a missing person on June 29.

Two days later, officers located a man whom they believed to be the missing individual and during that interaction, they arrested him.

Shortly after, it was reported that the man attempted to run away, and police used a non-lethal conducted energy weapon to stop him.

The man fell to the ground and began complaining of pain in his arm and shoulder which ended up being a broken collarbone.

ASIRT is investigating the circumstances surrounding the arrest and is asking anyone who’d witnessed the event to come forward.
