A 41-year-old man from Edmonton was arrested near the Gregoire Lake Provincial Park on Tuesday after RCMP received reports of shots being fired.
Police say that a verbal interaction occurred between the suspect and another individual leading to the man making threats and discharging a firearm near the woman and taking her cellphone.
According to the RCMP, the suspect then fled in his vehicle and was located shortly after with the stolen cellphone.
Christopher Ulrich is facing the following charges:
- Robbery with a firearm
- Discharge firearm while being reckless
- Weapons possession contrary to order (x2)
- Possession of a restricted firearm/prohibited weapon with ammunition without licence/registration
- Uttering threats
Wood Buffalo RCMP gave thanks to citizens who witnessed the altercation and provided assistance.
Following a Judicial Interim Release hearing, Ulrich has been remanded into police custody until his next court appearance on Monday.
