Smoke from nearby wildfire may reach Fort McMurray tonight

Smoke from a nearby wildfire may begin wafting into Fort McMurray later tonight.

Wildfire designated MWF025 located 30 km east of the city is estimated to be around 1554 hectares in size and is considered held by Alberta Wildfire.

A brief change in wind direction is expected to push smoke from the fire over Anzac and Fort McMurray after midnight tonight according to firesmoke.ca.

The wildfire located 21 km north of Fort Chipewyan labeled MWF031 remains on the edge of Flett Lake and is still considered held.

Firefighters and Helicopters continue to indirectly attack wildfire MWF031 throughout the day.

Both wildfires are closely monitored by firefighters on a regular basis and do not threaten any community at this time.

A fire ban remains in place for the Fort McMurray Forest Area north of Lake Athabasca and a fire advisory is in place south of Lake Athabasca.
