RMWB extends Canada Day Parade float registrations

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is extending the time residents have to get their float registrations in for the Canada Day Parade.

Groups now have until Tuesday, June 21.

If you’re looking to promote your business or organization you can sign up on the RMWB website.

The Parade will begin at 10:30 am, July 1 at Riedel Street, moving along Franklin Avenue to finish up at the corner of Main Street and Clearwater Drive.

Residents looking for a calmer, or quitter experience can benefit from the municipality’s newest addition of adding a sensory-friendly block.

The new feature will stop floats from using loud noises such as horns and sirens on the Main Street portion of the Parade.

Temporary road closers for July 1 will be:

  • All of Franklin Ave. from Riedel St. to Main St. will be temporarily closed from 10:15 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • One side of Clearwater Dr. from Main St. to Riedel St. will be temporarily closed for float marshaling from 7 a.m. – 1 p.m. Two-way traffic will remain available in the other lane.
  • All of Riedel St. from Clearwater Dr. to Franklin Ave. will be temporarily closed from 10:15 a.m. – 12 p.m.
  • All of Main St. from Franklin Ave. to Clearwater Dr. will be temporarily closed from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Additional activities will be held at MacDonald Island Park with an exciting magic show, Bob the Builder Live and the grand finale fireworks at 11:00 p.m. later that night.

More free fun for the family can be found at Heritage Village with free admission and cupcakes.
