Fort McMurray involved in massive drug investigation by Saskatchewan RCMP

Saskatchewan RCMP has made massive drug seizures following a nearly two-year investigation that led them all the way to Fort McMurray.

In Oct. 2020 the Saskatchewan RCMP Federal Serious and Organized Crime (FSOC) Unit based in Regina began an investigation into a sophisticated crime group distributing large quantities of drugs across multiple provinces.

Over 7,000 hours of surveillance were conducted during the investigation which covered Alberta, Ontario and Saskatchewan.

In June 2021, Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) acted on intelligence that was shared by FSOC claiming one of the suspected drug dealers was in Fort McMurray.

Following the tip, ALERT conducted a traffic stop and seized 452 grams of cocaine.

Total drug seizures across AB and SK were:

  • 21 grams of cocaine
  • 2.97 kilograms of methamphetamine
  • 9,202.21 grams of Meclonazepam (approximately 30,000 fake Xanax pills)
  • 49 grams of psilocybin (mushrooms)
  • 54 grams of MDMA

Through the investigation, 70 criminal charges have been laid across seven individuals.

The accused are Travis Ferko of Edmonton, AB; Cody Klemola of Edmonton, AB; Matteo Cimino of St. Albert, AB; Jennifer Tabunar of Edmonton, AB; Joel Gladue of Edmonton, AB; and Cong Su of Vaughn, ON, will make their first appearances in Provincial Court in Regina on June 21, 2022.

RCMP are still searching for 48-year-old Michael Bagan of Edmonton in relation to the ongoing investigation.

Bagan is described as standing 6’1” tall, weighing 216 lbs, with blue eyes and brown hair.
