A new program for youth in Janvier begins this week.

Wood Buffalo RCMP have partnered with Chipewyan Prairie First Nation and Conoco Phillips to bring the cadet program to the hamlet.

It will be open to students in grade three to ten and will give Indigenous youth the opportunity to take part in outings, cultural events, sports, drill and more.

Lead by current RCMP and community members, firsthand training will be offered on a bi-weekly basis and will showcase what a career in policing could entail.

Chipewyan Prairie First Nation Cadets will be held at the Janvier Multiplex.
