The MMEIP Solidarity Walk to raise awareness about Murdered, Missing, and Exploited Indigenous People is happening on Thursday, May 5 at 5:00 p.m. in Fort McMurray.
The walk will begin at the Centre of Hope walking along Franklin Avenue and will end at Jubilee Plaza for speeches and refreshments.
Brian Ross from 468 First Nation says they will be handing out 200 red dresses to those that want to attend.
“We will be hanging those all down Franklin Avenue and at the Provincial Building,” explained Ross. “We’ll have a local drum group local to Gregoire Lake drumming all the while.”
Speakers at the event will include family members of recently deceased Sherri Lynn Flett and members of the Centre of Hope.
Ross noted that for solidarity those wishing to attend can wear a ribbon skirt, for men a ribbon shirt, or simply wear red.
“If anybody just wants to show up though, just come as you are. It’s all about the solidarity,” said Ross.
