Mitsopoulos appointed FMPSD Assistant Superintendent, HR and Administration

The FMPSD has named Merrie-Rae Mitsopoulos their new Assistant Superintendent, Human Resources and Administration.

Starting with the FMPSD over 11 years ago, she has held roles ranging from Principal, Coordinator of Instruction, Director of Education, to Director of Human Resources and Administration. Mitsopoulous will begin her new position at the start of the new academic year on August 29, 2022.

“In my 11 years with FMPSD, I have embraced many new challenges and opportunities to learn. My experiences working in many different leadership roles at the Division has provided me with a strong understanding of the vision, goals and priorities of FMPSD,” said Mitsopoulos.

“I believe in the importance of always looking at my work through the lens of ‘Doing What’s Best for Kids’. I look forward to continuing serving the students and staff of Fort McMurray Public Schools in the role of Assistant Superintendent, Human Resources and Administration.”

While Principal at Dr. Clark Public School, Mitsopoulos forged partnerships to sustain the school’s breakfast program, and also championed Indigenous Education at both Dr. Clark and Westview Public Schools.

“Outstandingly reliable is an immediate description of Merrie-Rae. She is dependable, a constant support, and someone who has always gone above and beyond for students, staff, and FMPSD families,” said Annalee Nutter, FMPSD Superintendent.

“For the last two years, which have been challenging due to COVID, the 100-year Flood, staff turnover, and budgeting, Merrie-Rae has provided incredible support to the senior leadership team. I know she’ll be phenomenal overseeing this new portfolio.”

Mitsopoulos obtained her Master of Arts, Educational Leadership from San Diego State University, and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta.
