Fort McMurray Marathon announced for Sept. 25

This year’s Fort McMurray Marathon date has been announced for Sept. 25 by the Fort McMurray Marathon Organizing Committee along with a new charity fundraising element.

The Marathon’s new “Run for a Reason” will allow charitable organizations to sign up as fundraising beneficiaries to allow participants the chance to raise funds for their favourite registered charity.

Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta, Wood Buffalo Animal Rescue, Local Hero Foundation, Fort McMurray SPCA and Arts Council Wood Buffalo have so far signed up as beneficiaries at the time of writing.

According to the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo over 600 participants took part in last year’s hybrid event.

Participants can sign up for the Inter Pipeline Full Marathon (42.2km), Half Marathon (21.1km), 10km,5km, and 3km.

Children will also be able to take part in the Kid’s Fun Run which will allow them to enjoy short runs that share the same course with the long-distance runners.

Early bird registration for the 2022 Fort McMurray Marathon will begin on May 2.
