Oil Barons Brendan Wang awarded the 2022 Merit AJHL Scholarship

Oil Barons Brendan Wang has been awarded the 2022 Merit AJHL Scholarship for his exemplary actions both on and off the ice.

The $2000 annual scholarship is awarded to one recipient from both the Viterra AJHL North Division and Viterra AJHL South Division.

Eligible players must be currently playing in the AJHL and prepared to attend a post-secondary institution during the year of application.

Wang just finished up his second AJHL season and is bound for Princeton University.

“For my Junior career, I have been extremely fortunate to represent the Fort McMurray Oil Barons where I had the opportunity for my on and off ice hockey abilities to mature and develop,” Wang said.

Oil Barons GM/ Head Coach Adam Manah described Brendan as a player that checks off all the boxes.

“He has led the way showing why he is a character guy in our room by winning our Most Dedicated Award and Best Defenceman Award,” Manah explained.

The Oil Barons ended off the season while taking on the Drayton Valley Thunder in the second round of the AJHL playoffs where they, unfortunately, were knocked out in game 6.
