Transit systems throughout Alberta will be seeing a large injection of funds from both the provincial and federal governments.
Under the new program called Alberta Relief for Shortfalls for Transit Operators (RESTOR), Alberta will commit $79.5 million, which will be matched by the federal government, for a total of roughly $159 million.
Wood Buffalo is set to receive $1,194,284.
Premier Jason Kenney commented that the province’s transit systems took a financial beating during the pandemic.
“This funding will keep buses and trains moving to meet increased demand as we recover from the pandemics,” Kenney said.
