Weight reductions are set to come into effect on gravel roads throughout Wood Buffalo beginning Monday, April 11.

During the spring season, the load limits on Municipal gravel roads will be reduced to 75 per cent of the Gross Vehicle Weight.

This is done to maintain the integrity of the roads due to frost leaving the ground and moisture coming out of the roadbed which makes them weaker.

The load limit will apply to these gravel roads:
• West Road, Conklin
• Stoney Mountain Crossover, Cheecham Hills
• Tower Road, Fort McMurray
• Aostra Road, West of Suncor off Hwy 63
• Fort Fitzgerald Hwy. 48
• Hwy. 49 to Salt River

Some roads may also have additional safety measures such as reduced axel weights.
