Toolkit helping local businesses recruit and retain workers available through Chamber of Commerce

Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce is rolling out a toolkit they believe will help Wood Buffalo employers with future recruitment and retention.

According to a Labour Market Study done in Aug. 2021, Wood Buffalo is forecasted to see steady job growth till 2025.

The toolkit is aiming to help businesses and leaders recruit and retain a diverse and healthy workforce.

“The goal of this committee is to support business and industry with their biggest Labour market challenges. We hope this toolkit provides helpful tools and information for your organizations,” Regional Labour Market Committee said in a press release.

The Labour Study recommended employers increase the participation of underemployed groups, such as:

  • Indigenous
  • Mature workers
  • Newcomers
  • Persons with disabilities
  • Rural population
  • Women
  • Youth

As for retention, the Labour Study saw that creating a positive work environment and providing competitive salaries were identified as being the most successful strategies in Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo.
