Oil Barons enter must win territory

The Fort McMurray Oil Barons face a tall task in the second round of the AJHL playoffs.

Down 3-1 in a best-of-seven series with the Drayton Valley Thunder, the MOB now need to win the rest of their games to advance to the semi-finals.

The Oil Barons started the series off with a big win in game one, taking down the Thunder 4-1, outshooting their opponent 36-27.

Game two was a different story, with Thunder goalie Jackson Berry standing on his head, stopping 42 of 45 shots in a 5-3 victory.

On the road in Drayton Valley for games three and four, the Oil Barons lost a couple of nail biters both nights. Tuesday night in overtime 4-3, and then Wednesday night again 4-3, this time outshooting the Thunder 54-34.

Game five is set for March 26, at Centerfire Place, puck drop at 7:30 p.m.

Hometown goalie Gabe Gratton started the first three games of the series, sporting a .909 save percentage and a 2.84 GAA against Drayton Valley.

Josh Nadler started game four, stopping 30 of 34 shots, with a 0.882 save percentage and a 4.14 GAA.

Brandon Sacchetti is leading the Oil Barons in scoring these playoffs with 4 goals, 4 assists, 8 points in 9 games, but the Thunder has limited his production to just 2 points in 4 games.

Oil Barons’ power play for the series is 2-11, 18%, and their penalty kill is 14-19, 73%.

The Thunder power play for the series is 5-19, 26%, and their penalty kill is 9-11, 81%.
