Less than 25% voter turnout in by-election

Very few voters in Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche came out to take part in Tuesday’s by-election.

Unofficial results show that roughly 24 per cent of eligible voters voted.

This isn’t the first time that residents in this riding have shown low numbers.

In the 2019 Provincial General Election, Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche had a voter turnout of 58.2 per cent while the provincial average was 67.5 per cent.

The 2015 election had the provincial average at 53 per cent, the local region had a voter turnout of 36.2 per cent.

UCP candidate Brian Jean handily won Tuesday’s by-election with 3,714 votes.
