Recognizing the outstanding achievements of Albertans who are engaged in heritage preservation, protection, and promotion, the Alberta Heritage Awards have given out 70 awards since the program has been reintroduced in 2005.
“From Fort McMurray to Fort McLeod, our province is rich with resources that speak to Alberta’s history and culture,” said Ron Orr, Minister of Culture.
“It is important to protect and preserve our history for future generations. These awards are a wonderful way to thank Albertans who put their time and effort toward preserving our history.”
Individuals, organizations, corporations, and municipalities can be nominated in heritage conservation, heritage awareness, and outstanding achievement
Nomination forms and guidelines can be found on the Heritage Awards website.
Oliver Glanfield of Fort Chipewyan won the Outstanding Achievement award back in 2014 for preserving his region’s rich history.
The deadline for nominations is June 1, 2022, with the awards ceremony being held in September during Alberta Culture Days.
