Fort McMurray residents can join Alberta wide bottle drive to support Ukraine

A company operating in Fort McMurray is offering residents and businesses a chance to take part in the “Red Cross – Bottles For Ukraine” by picking up their empty bottles and cans through their app.

SkipTheDepot describes itself as an ‘Uber’ like service that comes to your door to pick up your bottles and cans.

The organization offers pickups every two weeks in Fort McMurray, providing pickup on Monday’s and Thursdays, with the next being March 17.

Beginning March 10, they’re offering users the chance to aid Ukrainian relief efforts by choosing “Red Cross – Bottles For Ukraine” in their app.

SkipTheDepot spokesperson Matt Hull commented that while normally they keep 30 per cent of proceeds to pay their driver, 100 per cent will be donated to help Ukraine.

Hull said that people have the option when using their service to keep the money or choose between 1,400 charities, non-profits, schools, and sports teams to donate to.

He stated that Albertans have used the app to donate over $1.1 million to non-profits and charities since the start of the pandemic.
