A man is in critical condition after multi-vehicle collision on Hwy. 63

A 59-year-old male is in critical condition after a multi-vehicle collision on Hwy. 63.

Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to the collision on Feb. 9 at roughly 7:50 p.m. near mile marker 220.

Preliminary investigation revealed a pickup truck traveling northbound on Hwy. 63 lost control and collided with a northbound semi-tractor unit.

A northbound minivan was unable to stop in time and collided with the semi-tractor jack-knifed on the highway. Icy roads are believed to have contributed to the collision.

The driver of the pickup was transmitted to hospital, and later air lifted to Edmonton in serious critical condition.

The minivan driver was transported to the local hospital with minor injuries and the driver of the semi-tractor was not physically injured.

The collision is still being investigated by the Fort McMurray Traffic Services Unit.
