A 47-year-old Fort McMurray man was stabbed over the weekend in the Beacon Hill area.

Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a 911 call on Saturday after an altercation occurred between two men which led to the incident.

Officers had discovered that during the scuffle a 49-year-old woman had attempted to intervene and was also injured in process.

The injured man was taken to hospital on Saturday with non-life-threatening injuries and the woman suffered only minor injuries.

54-year-old Arthur Dale Mercredi has been charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, assault on a police officer, and resisting arrest.

Mercredi has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Fort McMurray Provincial Court on Feb. 23.
