UNITE HERE Local 47 donates $500,000 to social profits

Several local social profits were on the receiving end of some generous donations.

UNITE HERE Local 47, who represents Camp, Culinary & Hospitality workers in Alberta, donated $200,000 towards the Wood Buffalo Food Bank, $200,000 to the Centre of Hope Fort McMurray, and $100,000 to the Northern Lights Health Foundation.

Ian Robb, President & Administrator for UNITE HERE Local 47 says he started the community fund years ago to enable the members to help non-profits and charities address their missions.

“Our work in the hospitality industry is vital to the success of the region as we provide nutritious meals and a comfortable clean place to live for out of town and shift workers,” said Robb.

“And of course we recognize that our members may have an impact on healthcare services. We know that great changes and impacts in healthcare require significant community and corporate investment and our members and our contractors are very pleased to provide this donation.”

Executive Director for the Northern Lights Health Foundation Cindy Amerongen says this is a terrific way to start the 2022 fundraising year.

“We want to thank Local 47 members for their generous donation as we have important projects underway at the hospital that require facility and technology renewal. Together with UNITE HERE Local 47 we will quickly advance those projects.”

UNITE HERE Local 47 has been in existence since 1944.
