Jan.13 COVID Update

AHS will be making changes to how they report outbreaks beginning Jan. 14.

Starting Friday Alberta Health will only be reporting outbreaks in high-risk areas given the extreme spread of the Omicron variant.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw asked employers during the COVID-19 update on Thursday to allow employees to stay home if they are sick to help stop the spread.

Hinshaw also noted that women who are pregnant are now on the list for people who are eligible for PCR testing.

Right now, in the province there are 62,733 active cases.

786 people are in hospital and 79 in the ICU.

Here in Fort McMurray, there are 805 active cases, and 51 in the rural area.

*Note that the numbers presented may be much higher as testing is limited. *
