The Fort McMurray Catholic School Division (FMCSD) will be without a key figure come next school year.
Superintendent George McGuigan has announced that he will be retiring at the end of the 2021/22 school year.
McGuigan has been with the FMCSD for 40 years as a teacher, school administrator, deputy superintendent, and since 2013 the superintendent.
He says he is eternally grateful for the opportunity the FMCSD has provided him.
“I can honestly say that there was never a day I didn’t thoroughly enjoy this career; even the days that involved tough decisions. To be able to be involved in the lives of youth and their families, developing lifelong relationships, is a gift I will treasure forever. I have been truly blessed.”
Long time resident of the RMWB, McGuigan currently serves on the Community Advisory Board with the RCMP, the Regional Aboriginal Recognition Awards Committee, and CAREERS Next Generation Advisory Group.
