Boil water advisory to stay in effect until the new year for Fort McKay

The boil water advisory in Fort McKay is expected to be in place until January 3.

Municipal crews are continuing to flush the water distribution system after a water line leak occurred on boxing day.

Water was restored to the area, but the boil water advisory remained in effect until the flushing of the system could allow testing to begin.

The municipality will be working alongside AHS and Indigenous Services Canada to develop the appropriate testing protocols.

According to the RMWB, testing should take around 4 to 5 days to ensure the water is safe to drink.

The Fort McKay First Nation Band Office is currently providing temporary drinking water to the community.
