AJHL postpones a couple Oil Barons games due to COVID

The Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) is postponing the Fort McMurray Oil Barons next two games due to COVID-19.

The following road games are postponed:

  • Thursday, December 30 @ Drayton Valley Thunder
  • Friday, December 31 @ Grande Prairie Storm

According to the AJHL, the postponement is due to COVID related issues within the Fort McMurray Oil Barons.

“There was a combination of individuals with positive tests and individuals with symptoms that prevented them from icing a team that met roster regulations,” said Charla Flett, VP & Communications for the AJHL.

Flett says the AJHL is following Alberta Health Services protocols when it comes to symptoms and positive test results.

“Anyone who has tested positive will have that 10 day isolation period, so it wont affect their teammates, because there isn’t the close contacts rule in Alberta.”

Speaking with Oil Barons President David Fitzgerald, the team will still be able to practice with the players who have tested negative.

New dates for the postponed games have yet to be announced.
