29th annual Food Drive raises over $300,000

The 29th annual Syncrude Food Drive and Corporate Challenge for the Wood Buffalo Food Bank was a huge success.

Taking place Nov. 25 – 28, with a goal of raising $300,000, they successfully beat that raising $302,349 over the four day event.

Food donations poured in as well, taking in 51,248 pounds of food.

“With how much the community has struggled over the past few years, we are just so grateful that we can still all come together to fight against food insecurity in our region,” said Dan Edwards, Executive Director of the Wood Buffalo Food Bank.

Edwards said the highlight was finally being able to host the Food Drive in-person again.

“In 2020 we saw firsthand the impact that our volunteers have on the success of our food drives. In those three days last year we were only able to raise 8,000 pounds of food, which we were able to surpass in only a matter of hours this year.”

Title sponsor Syncrude kick started the event with a $95,000 pledge.
