Education Minister announces they will not make vaccines mandatory in schools

Alberta’s Minister of Education, Adriana LaGrange, posted on social media on Wednesday an open letter announcing the education systems plan regarding the possible approval of vaccines for children aged 5-11.

Lagrange noted that they will not be making it mandatory for students to be vaccinated against covid-19, “Nor is Alberta Education considering mandating vaccines of any kind for students in the K-12 education system.”

“While I have always strongly encouraged everyone who is eligible to receive their COVID-19 vaccine, I must reiterate that every child in Alberta is entitled to have access to an education program.”

She says she takes children’s education very seriously and does not want to deny students their access to education due to their immunization status.
