Regional Survey on Household Spending Seeks Input to Attract and Retain Businesses

A new survey is looking for input on household spending in the region.

Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development and Tourism is looking for information from the public to help them support local business and attract new private investment.

“Local access to goods, services and experiences play an important role in the livability and sustainability
of our region,” Kevin Weidlich, President & CEO of FMWBEDT.

“The ultimate goal of this work is to enhance the amenities for individuals and families that live here, which makes us more competitive with other communities our size.”

The survey covers areas of retail spending, food and beverage, personal services and entertainment.

The results will be paired with additional market research and will be made available in early 2022.

The region sits at number one in Canada for highest amount of discretionary spending.

“Our role is to present the business case to investors on why Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo is the best place to do business,” Lisa Sweet, Director of Business & Investment Attraction of FMWBEDT.

“Incredible economic opportunity exists here, and we need to continue to work together to encourage investment in the region, through either existing businesses expanding or attracting new private investment.”

The survey is open to everyone living or working in the region, including temporary workforces and rural residents.

You can fill out the survey until November 15th at 4:00pm.
