The race for one of six ward one seats for Wood Buffalo Council includes Garth Hewitt.
The long time oilsands employee has been in the region since 2008 starting as an electrician before moving up to management.
Hewitt believes the region needs to revisit the plans previously set in place to move forward.
“As a Councilor, I would encourage Council and the Mayor to sit down and review the Strategic Plan approved in 2018, and in collaboration with the community stakeholders, update to reflect the long range plan and then have a robust rollout to create awareness and excitement in the community,” said Hewitt.
If elected he hopes to help with affordability in the region for small businesses and residents and advocate to the provincial government for rebates on things like the carbon tax.
Hewitt will be one of 24 names on the ballot for Ward One.
The election is scheduled for October 18, 2021.
