Alberta is expanding their vaccine eligibility for those wanting a third dose.
Starting October 6, those who are 75 and older, and First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people aged 65 and older, can book a third dose that is six months after their second dose.
The government is acting on recommendations from the Alberta Advisory Committee on Immunization, saying a third dose is needed because of their increased risk of hospitalization, death and other severe outcomes from the virus.
“We know that COVID-19 can be especially dangerous for our older populations and continue to do everything we can to keep them safe,” said Jason Copping, Minister of Health.
“Over three-quarters of eligible Albertans are now fully immunized. I encourage everyone to think of their family, friends and neighbours and get fully vaccinated as soon as possible.”
Third doses are also available to seniors living in congregate care.
Those that are immunocompromised also qualify for a third dose, that is at least eight week after their second dose.
