Wood Buffalo RCMP Host Land Acknowledgment Ceremony

Wood Buffalo RCMP held a ceremony to acknowledge the land that they’re on.

On September 21st, 2021 Wood Buffalo Detachment Officer in Charge Superintendent Mark Hancock was joined by Indigenous Liaison Officer Sargent Martina Noskey, as they hosted a smudging ceremony to unveil the Fort McMurray Detachment Treaty 8 land acknowledgement.

Grand Chief of Treaty 8 Arthur Noskey, along with elders from the communities and sacred drummers from the Métis Association assisted with the ceremony.

The unveiling of the Detachment Treaty 8 land acknowledgement was followed by a moment of silence, as a remembrance to Residential School victims and survivors.

Mayor Don Scott says this message is focusing on the commitment to reconciliation, and building stronger relationships with the Indigenous communities.
