A new bitcoin scam is targeting businesses in Fort McMurray, St Paul and Vermillion.

Wood Buffalo RCMP have received multiple reports of businesses being contacted by someone who is supposedly higher up in their company instructing them to deposit funds into a bitcoin ATM.

While the callers may know details of the store and employees, the calls are not legitimate.

Multiple stores have lost thousands of dollars as a result, with one of the employees even losing personal funds as well.
