Active Community Member Running For Ward One Council

A familiar name is putting himself forward in the race for Ward One council.

Running for a 4th time, Dogar M. Shafiq is looking to take up one of 6 Ward One council seats.

A former lawyer, a Veteran Major (R) with the NATO Allied Forces for 23 years who now owns his own trucking business says he is an Indigenous ally and multiculturalism advocate.

An active volunteer in the community, Dogar has helped with the wildfire, the floods, community clean up, 2015 Western Canada Games, Canada Day parades, and the SPCA.

Moving to Fort McMurray back in 2006, Dogar has been associated with numerous social profits, which led to his 2018 Citizen Recognition Program Award from the mayor and council.

Dogar was awarded the Heroes of the Wildfire 2016 Medal for his efforts from former MP David Yurdiga.

There are 24 people running for Ward One council and the election is set for October 18th.
