Tie-Dye Golf Tournament Fore Girls Inc Raises Nearly $25,000

Girls Inc of Northern Alberta are celebrating a big fundraising win after their golf tournament.

The 27th annual ‘Golf Tournament Fore Girls Inc’ presented by Fort McMurray First Nation Group of Companies was cancelled last year due to COVID-19 and re-invented for 2021.

The organization moved from an 18 hole serious tournament to a 9 hole fun event.

Players, some who had never golfed before showed up in tie-dye and helped raise money for barrier free programing for girls aged 6-18.

“Like many other great community initiatives, we have had to navigate so much uncertainty and so many unknown factors in making this event happen,” said Nanase Tonda, Executive Director.

“What are we learning from this ongoing adjustment, personally, systemically, individually and collectively? What is ‘normal’ anyway? One thing we know is that Girls Inc. is here for our girls, so that ALL girls can discover their strengths, use their voice and value their whole selves.”

In total the event and silent auction raised just under $25,000.
