Goodridge Is The New Conservative MP For Fort McMurray-Cold Lake

Laila Goodridge will be the region’s next representative in Ottawa.

She was elected as MP for Fort McMurray-Cold Lake on Monday after receiving 67 per cent of the vote.

Running as the Conservative Party candidate, Goodridge beat People’s Party of Canada candidate Shawn McDonald, Garnett Robinson with the NDP, the Liberals’ Abdifatah Abdi, Jonathan Meyers of the Maverick Party, the Green Party’s Brian Deheer, and Hughie Shane Whitmore of the Veterans Coalition Party of Canada.

She became the candidate after previous MP David Yurdiga announced he wouldn’t be running due to ‘medical issues.’

He had represented the riding in Ottawa since winning a by-election in 2014 to fill the position left vacant by Brian Jean.

Goodridge had previously served as MLA for Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche for around three years after winning a by-election in 2018.

Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party will form a minority government holding 158 seats, as of 3:45am Sept 21st.
