Fort McMurray Golf Club Set To Host Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship

Some of the country’s best golfers will be coming to Fort McMurray to take part in a national tournament.

The Fort McMurray Golf Club will be hosting the 34th annual Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship from August 24-27.

The field will feature some of the country’s best talent, 25 years and older, which includes nine local golfers.

“We are very excited to be welcoming amateur golfers from across the country to Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo,” said Tyler Cole, Economic Development Officer, Sports & Events, Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development & Tourism.

“We have been anticipating the return of sporting events for a long time and we can’t wait for the tournament to get underway.”

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only Canadian players will compete in the championship.

Players from different provinces are being encouraged to register.

“The club has worked tirelessly to have the course in pristine condition and it will be sure to draw out some exciting competition,” added Adam Cinel, Tournament Director with Golf Canada.

Tournament organizers are working with Alberta Health Services to ensure the players, staff, and spectators can participate safely.

Those wanting to watch the championship can do so for free.

“Local golfers know that the tight fairways of Fort McMurray Golf Club are a tough test of your game – we wish all of the visiting golfers the best of luck in the tournament,” noted Cole.
