‘Walk On The Island’ Program Returning To In-Person To Help Keep Seniors Active

Seniors are being encouraged to take part in the Walk on the Island program.

Put on by Alberta Health Services – in partnership with One Rec, St. Aidan’s Society, Golden Years Society, and Second Cup – individuals 55 years and older can stay active and help prevent/ manage different diseases by walking the track at MacDonald Island Park.

The pandemic had forced the program to go virtual for the last year and a half.

Sessions will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. with the first one happening on August 5.

Golden Years Society members can get free transportation by calling 780-743-4088.

Registration isn’t needed with participants needing to check in with the front desk once they arrive.

After the 45 minutes of walking, individuals will be given a free coffee from Second Cup.

Those who take part are encouraged to wear a mask and follow all appropriate health measures.
