RCMP Hand Out Several Tickets & Warnings, Remove Faulty Vehicles During Highway 881 Checkstop

A recent traffic stop on Highway 881 is leading to several tickets and warnings.

Wood Buffalo RCMP, along with Commercial Vehicle Enforcement and Alberta Sheriffs, set up a checkstop on July 20 after multiple accidents took place on the road over the past few weeks.

At least two vehicles ended up flipping over, while another drove directly into Gregoire Lake.

In total, 79 commercial vehicles were pulled over with 19 getting a full inspection.

Seven tickets ended up being issued, another seven warnings were given, while six vehicles were taken out of service.

This was a second checkstop the Mounties conducted on the highway in the past month.

The first resulted in 15 tickets being handed out, 18 warnings, and 12 vehicles being inspected.

The RCMP are asking those who use the road to be extra careful around turns, to obey all posted signage, and to follow all traffic laws.

Anyone who sees someone using the road dangerously is encouraged to contact RCMP at 780-788-4040 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
