Wood Buffalo – Cold Lake Adds 1,100 Jobs In June

The region is continuing to see a rise in the number of jobs month-over-month.

That’s according to Statistics Canada’s latest report which notes Wood Buffalo – Cold Lake added around 1,100 spots in June.

This is the fourth straight month the region has seen an increase in positions.

The wholesale and retail trade sector saw the biggest growth, adding around 600 jobs.

The accommodation and food services sector also added approximately 400 spots.

The region’s biggest sector – forestry, fishing, mining, quarrying, oil, and gas – saw a small drop of around 300 positions.

Meanwhile, the local unemployment rate dropped to 6.6 per cent.

The provincial rate rose to 9.3 per cent, while the federal unemployment rate dropped to 7.8 per cent.
