Fort McMurray’s active COVID-19 case count is slightly dropping.
The province announced on Wednesday 76 new cases over the past 24-hours.
There are currently 1,055 active cases across Alberta, while there have been a total of 231,987 positive tests.
There are also 165 Albertans in the hospital for the virus, 34 of which are in ICUs.
Locally, Fort McMurray added one new case and five recoveries in the past 24 hours which lowers the active total to 31.
The rural areas remain at zero active cases.
In total, 6,963 individuals across the RMWB – 6,638 in Fort McMurray and 325 in the rural areas – have recovered.
They are among the 228,631 who’ve recovered across the province. This represents over 98 per cent of reported cases.
There were also two new deaths from COVID-19 in Alberta over the past 24 hours – raising the total to 2,301.
To date, 16 individuals in Fort McMurray and one in the rural areas have died as a result of the virus. However, Indigenous leaders have claimed members have passed away in other communities not in the RMWB.
Vaccine Update
Nearly 65 per cent of eligible residents in Fort McMurray and over 45 per cent in the rural areas have gotten at least one shot of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Right now, those born in 2009 or earlier can book an appointment at MacDonald Island Park or participating healthcare facilities.
Those who got their first shot on June 2, 2021, or earlier can also set a time to receive their second.
This is the current breakdown for who’s gotten the vaccine in Fort McMurray:
- 75+: 515 people (76 per cent)
- 60-74: 4,954 people (76 per cent)
- 40-59: 16,600 people (72 per cent)
- 20-39: 15,849 people (55 per cent)
- 12-19: 4,215 people (62 per cent)
This is the current breakdown for who’s gotten the vaccine in the rural areas:
- 75+: 61 people (60 per cent)
- 60-74: 287 people (59 per cent)
- 40-59: 602 people (51 per cent)
- 20-39: 393 people (33 per cent)
- 12-19: 169 people (36 per cent)
