Wood Buffalo RCMP are creating a new position to help increase the connection between them and Indigenous communities.
Sgt. Martina L Noskey has officially been named as Indigenous Liaison Officer and will be tasked with working directly with Indigenous leaders.
She’s worked at multiple detachments across the province for 21-years, growing up in Treaty 8 which includes the RMWB.
Noskey also fluently speaks her native language of Cree.
“I am excited about this new position and the potential it has to further strengthen relationships within our communities,” said Mark Hancock, Superintendent of the Wood Buffalo RCMP.
Since taking on the position earlier this year, Hancock has stated one of his top priorities is improving the relationship with the region’s Indigenous peoples.
In the coming weeks, Noskey will be traveling across the RMWB where she plans on speaking directly with local elders and community leaders.
