Stage Three of the province’s plan to reopen the economy will come into effect in roughly two weeks.
Premier Jason Kenney announced on Friday nearly all restrictions will be lifted on Canada Day.
This comes after 70 per cent of eligible of Albertans, those born in 2009 and earlier, had received their first COVID-19 vaccine. The GoA set this target in their ‘open for summer’ timeline.
This means indoor social gatherings will once again be allowed, the provincial mask mandate will be lifted, capacity limits cut, and more.
Under Stage Three, isolation will still be required for those who test positive for the virus.
Some protective measures will also remain in place at continuing care facilities.
In the meantime, Kenney is reminding the public restrictions are still in place for the next two weeks.
This includes 33 per cent capacity limits at retail stores, places of worship, libraries, museums, and movie theatres.
Outdoor gatherings, wedding ceremonies, and funeral services will be allowed up to 20 people.
Public outdoor events can have as many as 150 individuals in attendance, while seated outdoor seated areas can have up to one-third capacity.
Meanwhile, despite restrictions being lifted on Canada Day, the RMWB will continue with their plans to hold drive-in events on June 30 and July 1.
Residents can watch ‘Raya and the Last Dragon’ at MacDonald Island Park, both nights, before the annual fireworks.
Families will have the opportunity to submit an entry to a randomly drawn lottery from June 23 – June 27 for a chance to attend one of the movie nights.
Second Dose Eligibility
More Albertans can now book an appointment to get their second vaccine.
Tyler Shandro, Alberta’s Minister of Health, also announced on Friday they’re allowing those who received their first dose in May to set up a time, effective immediately.
Originally, these individuals had to wait until June 28 before they could book a time. However, due to supply and the small number of people getting their first vaccine, the province is moving up the timeline.
People who received the AstraZeneca vaccine in May or earlier can also book an appointment, though the province recommends you wait eight weeks between shots.
Individuals who got their first shot in June can book an appointment after four weeks have passed.
Residents can book an appointment at MacDonald Island Park by calling Health Link at 811 or through Alberta Health Services’ website. People can also call participating healthcare facilities directly.
