$3M Up For Grabs In Open For Summer Vaccine Lottery

You could be a lot richer if you get the COVID-19 vaccine.

The government of Alberta announced their ‘Open For Summer Vaccine Lottery’ over the weekend which looks to provide Albertans with the chance of winning $1 million.

“This lottery will help us cross that 70 per cent threshold so we can reopen and stay open,” said Premier Jason Kenney.

Currently, just under 69 per cent of eligible Albertans have gotten at least one vaccine.

To be eligible, you have to be 18 years old or older, reside in Alberta at the time of the draw, and provide proof that you have received one dose of the vaccine.

Registration for the draw will close one week after 70 per cent of eligible Albertans get at least one vaccine, with the lottery winners being announced when Stage 3 of Alberta’s Open for Summer Plan begins.

To encourage more people to get fully vaccinated, two more lotteries will happen in August and September with any Albertan over the age of 18 who’s received two doses being eligible to win $1 million.

“We know that two doses of vaccine are necessary for effective, long-lasting protection against COVID-19,” added Tyler Shandro, Alberta Health Minister.

“If you haven’t yet, please book your first or second shot appointments today.”

You can register for the draws through the GoA’s website.

For those between the ages of 12 and 17, the province is exploring potential incentive programs.

Meanwhile, those born in 2009 or earlier can also book a time to get their first shot at MacDonald Island Park or at participating healthcare facilities, while those who got theirs in April or earlier can also set up a time to get their second.
