Imperial Oil is supporting Keyano’s Metal Trades department.

The oil company is donating around $14,000 in welding materials to assist in practical learning.

They reportedly had extra materials and quickly contacted Keyano to see if they would have use for them.

“On behalf of our department and students, I’d like to extend our appreciation and gratitude for Imperial Oil’s support in learning,” said Darren Stacey, Chair or Metal Trades at Keyano.

He adds the materials will directly impact the Welding Apprenticeship program.

Over the years, hundreds of students have taken part in the program and have provided industry and the region a locally skilled workforce.

“Originally started back in 1965, the program has been providing industry in the Fort McMurray region and beyond with highly skilled professional journeypersons ever since,” noted Stacey.

Imperial is also delivering the materials, free of charge, to the school.
