Syncrude Employee Dies After ‘Incident’ With Aurora Excavator

An investigation is underway after a death at Syncrude’s Aurora site.

Around 5 p.m., on June 6, emergency crews responded to an ‘incident’ at an excavator.

Syncrude didn’t clarify what happened, only noting an employee was fatally injured.

No one else was injured.

“In an organization like ours where safety is the top priority, it’s tremendously difficult when we experience such a tragic loss,” said Andrew Rosser, Senior Vice President, Production.

“We are deeply saddened by this loss and our thoughts are with the employee’s family and friends at this difficult time.”

Syncrude is working with RCMP and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety.

They’re also conducting their own investigation into the incident.
