Wood Buffalo – Cold Lake Adds 1,600 Jobs For Second Straight Month

The number of jobs across the region is continuing to increase.

That’s according to Statistics Canada’s latest report which notes Wood Buffalo – Cold Lake added around 1,600 spots in May.

This is the second straight month the region has added 1,600 jobs.

After adding roughly 1,000 positions in April, the education sector added another 900 spots.

The construction sector added around 700 jobs, while the forestry, fishing, mining, quarrying, oil, and gas and wholesale and retail trade sectors each added approximately 500 positions.

The biggest loss was in the transportation and warehousing as they lost around 500 spots month-over-month.

Meanwhile, the local unemployment rate dropped to 7.1 per cent.

The provincial rate drops slightly 8.7 per cent, while the federal unemployment rate increased to 8.2 per cent.
